Dr. M. C. Gupta is a doctor turned lawyer. He is a practicing advocate with health and medical law as the area of special interest. He is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Indian Law Institute. He takes up cases for both patients and doctors and has been engaged for his legal expertise by several IMAs and other associations of doctors.

He has completed MBBS and MD in Medicine from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was a faculty member for 18 years. Later, he worked for 10 years as Professor at the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi, where he was also the Dean.

He has an MPH degree from the University of San Carlos, Guatemala, Central America. He has been a Fellow of the United Nations University. He also holds an LL.B degree from Delhi University and LL.M. from Kurukshetra University. He joined the Bar in 2001.

He is the author of about 25 books on medicine, health and law. His book "Law for Doctors: 150 questions answered" has been quite popular. A second revised version is expected to be published around April 2015.

He is frequently invited for orations, lectures, seminars etc. on medico-legal issues.

He was the recipient of the National Citizen Award, 1992 and is also a Fellow of the National Foundation of Clinical Forensic Medicine.
